High losses, competition pressure insurers' profitability

A report by U.S.-based ratings agency A.M. Best Co. Inc. said that increasing losses and intense competition in the long-term insurance lines, as well as rising interest obligations may pressure South Korean nonlife insurers' profitability, Asia Insurance Review reports. Declining sales of long-term insurance products, as well as stagnant economic growth and direct and indirect regulatory restrictions on insurance pricing, have pressured the nonlife insurance industry's top-line.
