New Zealand convention center insurers might refuse to pay out

An insurance expert said that insurers may refuse to pay claims for the massive fire that hit SkyCity Entertainment Group's New Zealand International Convention Centre this week if they conclude the fire was caused by "recklessness or gross irresponsibility," NZ Herald reports. The lead contractor, a subcontractor and even an individual employee of the subcontractor could all potentially be held liable for the damage, said Rohan Havelock, a senior lecturer in insurance law at the University of Auckland.
