Insurers call for improved fire protection on container ships

Marine insurers have called for a drastic improvement in fire protection measures on container ships and urged countries to press for change in international regulations at the International Maritime Organization, The Loadstar reported. Helle Hammer, chair of International Union of Marine Insurance's Policy Forum, said, "Mis- and non-declaration of cargo has serious safety implications and is the root cause behind these tragic incidents."
