State of emergency as oil sullies beaches

Brazil's northeastern state of Bahia has declared a state of emergency following the contamination of around 20 beaches by oil sludge, Taiwan News reported citing the Associated Press. Brazil's environmental agency said that an oil leak from an unknown source since the beginning of September has polluted at least 150 beaches in nine states.
