African swine fever to cost Belgian pig industry up to $640 million

African swine fever is expected to cost the Belgian pig industry between €447 million ($491 million) and €584 million ($641 million), The Brussels Times reported citing De Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad. Michael Gore, managing director of the Federation of Belgian Meat, said that each month of interrupted exports costs the industry more than €22 million. Belgium should be able to resume pork exports by August 2020 if no new cases of ASF are detected.
