2020 emissions cap presents major risk for shipping sector

A report by U.K.-based research and consulting services provider Drewry Shipping Consultants Ltd. said that the International Maritime Organization's 2020 emissions cap is one of the major risks facing the shipping industry, Supply Chain Quarterly reports. The IMO has ruled that the sector's sulfur emissions in international waters must be reduced by more than 80% starting Jan. 1, 2020. Cargo carriers will probably be able to recoup the costs of the emissions cap, but the change presents huge risk.
