Ecuador's transit unions went on a strike on Oct. 3, bringing the country to a standstill, The New York Times reports. The strike, to protest President Lenin Moreno's decision to strip away a $1.3-billion fuel subsidy, led to the shutdown of public transportation. Blockades along the main road to Quito International Airport disrupted traffic, resulting in flight delays and cancellations.
