Zurich Insurance Group on Friday appointed former senior Swiss financial markets regulator and longtime former Zurich executive Peter Giger as group chief risk officer, effective Oct. 1, succeeding Alison Martin, who was named CEO for Europe, Middle East and Africa and bank distribution in July.
Mr. Giger joins Zurich after four years at the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA, where he was head of the insurance division and deputy CEO until September 2018, Zurich said in a statement.
Prior to joining FINMA, Zurich-based Mr. Giger held various executive positions at Zurich from 2002 to 2014, most recently as chief financial officer of its general insurance business from 2010 to 2014, Zurich said.
“Peter is a strong leader with global experience in the insurance industry and technical excellence in finance, risk and underwriting. … He started his career in our company, and with almost 20 years with Zurich already has an excellent understanding of our business model and risk profile,” Mario Greco, group CEO, said in the statement.
