Axis names chief claims officer

Axis Insurance, a division of Axis Capital Holdings Ltd., named Chicago-based Michael Baumel to succeed chief claims officer David Hayward, who will retire in March 2020. 

Mr. Baumel, head of North American claims, will become chief claims officer after a six-month transition period. He will join the Axis Insurance leadership team and report to CEO Peter Wilson, Axis said in a statement Monday.

Mr. Baumel has been with Axis Insurance for more than four years and previously practiced law in Chicago, the statement said.

Mr. Hayward spent the past 17 years of a more than 30-year career at Axis, the statement said.
