Santam's premiums rise 9%

South African insurer Santam Ltd.'s premiums grew 9% to 17 billion South African rands ($1.1 billion) in the first half, IOL reported. Underwriting profits were impacted by multiple events of 2018. Large claim events during the first six months include fires in Betty's Bay in January; hail damage in Newcastle in March; and a storm in Durban in April.
