Italian volcano erupts, showers rocks and ash

Burning material from the explosion fell from the crater and rolled down to the sea, causing widespread vegetation fires. Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said the explosion produced a pyroclastic flow of several hundred meters into the sea.
