India mulls setting up reinsurance pool for crop insurance program

India is considering setting up a reinsurance pool for the government's crop insurance program to retain premiums locally, Asia Insurance Review reported citing sources. A government official said that insurers ceded nearly 50 billion Indian rupees ($700 million) worth of premiums to foreign reinsurers since the program was introduced in 2016.
