South Korea unveils plan to mitigate supply-chain disruption

South Korea plans to invest about $6.5 billion in research and development for local materials, parts and equipment over the next seven years in an effort to cut reliance on Japanese imports and prevent supply-chain disruptions, Reuters reported. Japan dropped South Korea from its "white list" of countries with fast-track export status, potentially disrupting global semiconductor supplies for tech giants such as U.S.-based Apple Inc. South Korea plans to be self-sufficient for 100 key supplies that are used to make chips, displays, batteries, automobiles among other products.
