Macau to offer catastrophe insurance for SMEs

Macau's monetary authority is offering its own catastrophe insurance for local small and medium-sized enterprises after several insurers refused to cover SMEs due to higher flood risk, Macau Daily Times reported. Under the program, the monetary authority will offer three options with insurance coverage up to 300,000 Macanese patacas ($37,239). The authority said that typhoon Hato caused MOP 12.5 billion in economic losses in 2017 while insurers paid out a total MOP 3.4 billion in claims.
