India mulls bypassing reinsurers for agricultural risk program
Posted On: Jul. 29, 2019 5:46 AM CSTIndia is considering setting up a pool related to claim settlements for the government's agricultural insurance program in order to bypass reinsurers, Business Standard reported. An official said that insurance premiums under the program totaled 483 billion Indian rupees ($7 billion) in the previous two financial years ended March 31, 2018 and March 31, 2017 while payouts amounted to INR 398 billion. Insurers currently retain 25% of premiums and cede the remaining risk to reinsurers.
