Abandoned chemical factory could cause environmental catastrophe

A Russian official said that an abandoned chemicals factory in Siberia could cause an environmental disaster similar to the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear accident, The Moscow Times reported citing sources. Svetlana Radionova, head of Russia's environment regulator, said that the Usolyekhimprom plant in the Irkutsk region, which was abandoned due to bankruptcy in 2017, still contains an array of toxic substances.
