Insurers take equity route after regulator stops issuing licenses

Local companies looking to get a foothold in China’s insurance market must buy existing insurers because the country's regulator stopped issuing licenses in April 2017, Caixin Global reported. The change has hampered domestic players while foreign insurers are likely to benefit due to China's plans to open up the insurance sector in 2020.
