Gulf of Guinea accounts for 92% of hostage-takings

A report by U.K.-based International Maritime Bureau found that the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa accounted for 92% of all hostage-takings on board ships in the first half of the year, Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide reported. The report said that pirates kidnapped or took hostage 75 seafarers for ransom worldwide, with 62 crew members captured off the coasts of Nigeria, Guinea, Togo, Benin and Cameroon.
