Loyal fans of LaCroix may find it refreshing that the makers of their favorite fizzy water are fighting back against claims the water is unnatural and contains harmful ingredients — months after its CEO claimed poor sales.

The company posted on its social media several points it says it wishes to make clear:

"LaCroix's reputation has been maligned over the last year by 'buzzworthy' publicity arising from false and intentionally misleading accusations that may take months or years to refute in court," the company said in its post. "Because LaCroix's relationship with our fans is something special to us, we are communicating with you today about LaCroix."

The company also said sparkling water is "made only with flavor ingredients that have been certified as natural" and that all of its ingredients are free of genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, and that its cans are BPA-free, referring to a chemical used in the production of some plastic and aluminum containers that has gained widespread attention as being unsafe.
