China orders 82 mines to halt operations over safety concerns

Chinese authorities in the Shanxi province have ordered 82 coal mines to either stop production or construction so far this year after uncovering potential dangers at their sites, Reuters reported. Shanxi Coal Mine Safety Administration fined coal companies nearly $9 million for safety-related lapses.
