AIG snags Marsh exec to run consolidated reinsurance unit

American International Group Inc. said Wednesday is it is forming AIG Re, which consolidates the insurer’s assumed reinsurance operations, including Validus Re, AlphaCat and Talbot Treaty, into one global business.

AIG said in its statement it has named Christopher Schaper, formerly CEO of Marsh LLC’s managing general agent businesses since 2016, to the new position of AIG Re’s CEO, effective July 1.

Mr. Schaper, who will be based in Bermuda, will report to Peter Zaffino, president and CEO, AIG general insurance, and global chief operating officer.

Marsh said separately it has named Brian Hanuschak president of North America for Victor Insurance Holdings, its managing general underwriting business, effective immediately.

Mr. Hanuschak, who is based in Chevy Chase, Maryland, has led Victor O. Schinnerer, Victor Insurance Holdings’ founding company, for four years.

His responsibilities will expand to include Victor O. Schinnerer & Co.; ENCON in Canada; ICAT, the property catastrophe business; and Dovetail, Victor’s insurtech marketplace for insurance agents and their small commercial customers.

Anthony Stevens will continue as president of Victor International.  Both Mr. Hanuschak and Mr. Stevens will report to John Drzik, president, Marsh global risk and digital.
