Berkshire Specialty opens Paris office, hires Axa exec

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Co. has established an office in Paris and appointed former Axa XL executive François-Xavier d’Huart as country manager, the insurer said in a statement Monday.

Berkshire Specialty will underwrite property/casualty and executive and professional lines in France and expects to launch several other products in the country, the statement said.

Mr. d’Huart was most recently head of client and broker management for France at Axa XL, a division of Axa SA, the statement said.

Berkshire Specialty also has European offices in London, Dublin, Dusseldorf and Munich.

“François-Xavier brings extensive experience to BHSI, and I am so pleased to have him at the helm as we build our product line and team in Paris,” Chris Colahan, president of Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance in Europe and the U.K., said in the statement.
