Catastrophic eruption feared after volcano rumbles to life

Scientists said that the 10,000 foot-high Bolshaya Udina volcano in Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula has become active and could produce a catastrophic eruption with widespread damage, Newsweek reported citing sources. The volcano was previously classified as extinct and the eruption could be similar to the one that wiped out the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum almost 2,000 years ago, the scientists added.
