Insurers likely to face huge volume of sulfur cap-related claims

Experts said that marine insurers are likely to face a huge volume of claims related to the global sulfur cap on bunker fuel, which comes into effect Jan. 1, 2020, Splash247.com reported. Rolf Thore Roppestad, chief executive of Norway-based Gard Marine and Energy Ltd., said that the insurer has received more than 100 sulfur-cap-related claims from ship yards, vessel owners, bunker suppliers and machinery equipment manufacturers.
