Ammonia tank explodes at Spanish factory

A 20,000-liter ammonia tank exploded at a factory near the city of Tarragona in northeastern Spain on May 31, forcing the Catalan region's Directorate General of Civil Protection to declare a state of emergency, Hazardex reported. The explosion at Spain-based industrial gas manufacturer Sociedad Espanola de Carburos Metalicos, S.A.'s plant, killed one worker and injured 14 people.
