Sugarcane farmers to take $145-million drought hit

Drought in southwest China's Yunnan Province has damaged about 99,893 hectares of sugarcane crops or 35% of the total plantation in the province, costing farmers nearly $145 million in lost income, Xinhua reported. The Yunnan Provincial Sugar Association said that the province's sugarcane output is likely to decline 2.2 million tons while sugar output is expected to fall by 280,000 tons this year.
