Explosion rips through container ship, damages berth at Thai port

A chemical explosion occurred on a containership at the port of Laem Chabang in Thailand on May 25, forcing authorities to close three berths and causing health problems to 130 people, Splash247.com reported. The blast and fire caused significant damage to Korea Marine Transport Co. Ltd.'s containership and to a berth at the port. The blaze is likely to have started in a box containing calcium hypochlorite, a disinfecting and bleaching chemical which has caused several ship fires in recent years.
