Container ship fires surge, hazardous cargo, large ships to blame

Experts said that the number of container ship fires increased in the first quarter fire due to hazardous cargo, large size of container ships and small crew numbers, DC Velocity reported. The experts said that fire damaged hundreds of cargo containers on board six ships across the world. Shippers are also finding it difficult to recover cargo from fire-damaged vessels due to ports unwilling to store ship and containers for months while physical damage and legal issues are sorted, the experts added.
