Magnitude-8.0 quake hits Peru, disrupts oil operations

Peruvian authorities said that an 8.0-magnitude earthquake struck the country's northeastern Loreto region in the Amazon rainforests on May 26, damaging homes and roads and disrupting some oil operations, Reuters reported. Petroleos del Peru-Petroperu S.A. said that the quake created a "minor" leak in a pipe at its Talara refinery and forced the oil company to suspend pumping at its facility in Loreto.
