Investigators in Ireland have zeroed in on the alleged stager of fake car accidents, as part of a long-running dive into fraudulent insurance claims on slow-moving fender benders that created as many as 40 insurance claims, The Independent reported on Friday.

Specifically, investigations have established the 43-year-old man — unnamed in the article — is “suspected of being involved in more than half a dozen staged accidents which have resulted in more than 40 insurance claims in a two-year period,” according to the article.

The false claims from accidents staged or falsified between 2014 and 2016 resulted in “hundreds of thousands of euro being paid out to dozens of people known to the suspect by multiple insurance companies,” the article reads.

"These were all low-impact accidents which happened at low speeds in which minor damage occurred and the incidents were never reported to (police),” an investigator told a reporter.
