Internet firms’ executives could face jail time under legislation

Singapore's parliament has passed new legislation to curb the spread of fake news, under which the government can fine internet companies up to $733,000 and sentence executives to 10 years in jail, Cnet reported citing sources. The Protection of Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Bill also allows the government to order companies like U.S.-based Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc. to put fake news warnings next to posts or take them down completely.
