Chile fines Japanese shippers $9 million for car cartel

Chile's competition regulator fined Japan-based shippers Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. $9.1 million for running a car shipping cartel, Seatrade Maritime News reported. The Tribunal de Defensa de la Libre Competencia fined Nippon Yusen $6.6 million and Mitsui $2.5 million for colluding to avoid competition in the transport of vehicles from Europe, North America and Asia to Chile.
