Businesses take $69-million hit from protests, riots

The South African Special Risk Insurance Association SOC Ltd. said that local businesses suffered about 1 billion South African rand ($69 million) in losses due to protests and riots between April 2018 and January, IOL.co.za reported. Malesela Maupa, an official at South Africa-based FNB Insurance Brokers, called on local small and medium-sized enterprises to buy protection against civil commotion, public unrest, strikes, riots and acts of terrorism ahead of national elections in May.
