El Nino-related drought causes $110 million of crop damage

The Philippines' Department of Agriculture said that drought-related to the El Nino weather pattern has caused 5.7 billion Philippine pesos ($110 million) worth of damage to rice and corn crops, ABS-CBN News reported. Ariel Cayanan, the agriculture undersecretary, said that the government is providing crop insurance and urged farmers to use drought-tolerant seeds.
