Social media firms could face stiff fines over terrorist content

Social media giants could face fines totaling up to 4% of their global turnover if they fail to remove terrorist content within an hour under legislation recently proposed by European Union lawmakers, CNBC reported. Under the proposed regulation, internet companies including U.S.-based Facebook Inc and YouTube will need to remove text, images and audio or video clips that incite or solicit terrorist activities.
