Scammers

Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill has a message for residents who received notes in the mail from car dealerships telling them they won cars, televisions or $1,000: you won an opportunity to participate in a lawsuit against the companies we believe are scamming you.

The scam? Lure people in only to hear a sales pitch, according to an article posted Tuesday on the news site for 93.1 FM, WIBC network.

In addition to seeking residents who might have been scammed, the attorney general is already suing one company that sent out the mailers between March 2016 and March 2018, according to the article.

The suit says that all the mailings contained game pieces purporting to determine whether recipients had won prizes but that the game pieces actually contained identical game pieces with “winning numbers,” according to the article.

Residents reportedly went to car dealerships to claim winnings only to be approached by a salesperson, according to the article.
