Social media companies could face significant fines and top executives could be held personally liable if they fail to protect users including children from harmful online content under proposed government regulations, Sky News reported. The U.K.'s Home Office and Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said that the government is likely to appoint a regulator to ensure companies curb violent content, disinformation, cyberbullying and other inappropriate activities from their platforms.
