Spencer Scholars named for 2019

The Spencer Educational Foundation Inc., which supports risk management and insurance education with scholarships and grants for students, on Friday named 77 full-time undergraduate, graduate, predissertation Ph.D. and doctoral candidate students as its 2019 Spencer Scholars.

The New York-based foundation awarded $452,500 in total scholarships for 2019 to students representing 27 schools, an awards list from the organization revealed.

The five highest-ranking undergraduate students were Melanie Keusch of Olivet College, Lauren M. Morell of La Salle University, Ann E. Pegrebitsky of the University of Nebraska, Varun Sivakumar of Temple University and Andrew J. Todd of Olivet College, who each received $7,500.

An additional 61 undergraduate scholarships were awarded at $5,000 each, along with eight master’s scholarships at $10,000 each, and one predissertation Ph.D. scholarship at $10,000.

In a new category for 2019, the foundation also awarded two doctoral candidate scholarships at $10,000 each.

The foundation’s scholarships are merit-based and take into consideration academics, leadership, industry interest and experience.
