Natural disasters to hit meat producers' supply chain

Peter Rizzo, chief executive of Australian Meat Processor Corp. Ltd., said that natural disasters including drought are expected to disrupt the meat processing industry's supply chain, SBS News reported. Mr. Rizzo said that drought across eastern Australia and floods in north Queensland are likely to reduce the number of cattle available for slaughter by 2%. Several processing plants are also likely to shut down temporarily and take 18 months to recover to earlier supply levels, he added.
