Bridge washout hits tourism sector, hotels face drop in visitors

A washout of the Waiho River Bridge has hit the tourism sector in the flood-hit West Coast region in New Zealand, forcing several businesses to consider laying off staff, Stuff.co.nz reported. Brendan Taylor, general manager at New Zealand-based Scenic Hotel Group, said that business interruption insurance would cover its losses however the company could face higher insurance rates later.
