Japan mulls extending sovereign ship insurance to import Iranian oil

Takashi Tsukioka, president of the Petroleum Association of Japan, said that the government is considering whether to extend sovereign ship insurance to import Iranian oil for the financial year starting April 1, Reuters reported. Mr. Tsukioka said that Japanese refiners are urging the government to seek an extension of U.S. sanctions waivers to import Iranian oil after the initial 180-day exemption period ends in early May.
