Switzerland-based International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement said that cyclone Idai has damaged nearly 90% of properties and infrastructure in the Mozambican port city of Beira, Reuter reported citing sources. Jamie LeSueur, a Red Cross official, said that the March 15 storm damaged communication lines and destroyed roads across the region. The port of Beira is a gateway for imports to landlocked countries in Southern Africa.
