Oil spill from sunken cargo ship threatens French coast

French authorities are trying to contain an oil spill off the Atlantic coast after an Italian cargo ship carrying 45 containers of "dangerous materials" sank in the Bay of Biscay on March 12, Euronews reported. Francois de Rugy, France's environment minister, said that the sheet of oil is 10-kilometres long and is threatening to hit parts of the country's southwest region near Bordeaux.
