Cohen questioned on insurance fraud

Michael Cohen’s testimony before the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Wednesday touched briefly on insurance.

Mr. Cohen, a former longtime employee of President Donald Trump who is due to begin a prison sentence later this year after pleading guilty to campaign finance violations and other charges, was called to testify before the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Wednesday.

During a full day of testimony he covered numerous issues related to his work as a so-called fixer for Mr. Trump.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York, asked Mr. Cohen, President Trump’s former attorney, “To your knowledge, did the president ever provide inflated assets to an insurance company?”

Mr. Cohen answered, “Yes.”

“Who else knows that the president did this?” asked Rep. Ocasio-Cortez. Mr. Cohen responded by naming three Trump Organization officials: Allen Weisselberg, Ron Lieberman and Matthew Calamari.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez asked, “And where would the committee find more information on this? Do you think we need to review his financial statements and his tax returns in order to compare them?”

“Yes, and you’d find them at the Trump Organization,” Mr. Cohen said.

Spokesmen for Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and the Trump Organization did not respond to requests for comment.
