BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

The Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc. and the Spencer Educational Foundation Inc. on Thursday launched a guide to help risk professionals develop internship programs for their companies.

The guide sets out key tools for building a successful program for companies that are either hiring a risk management intern for the first time or have an existing plan, RIMS said.

“Creating meaningful internships is crucial to the sustainability of this profession and we’re excited to build this bridge to rewarding risk management careers,” RIMS CEO Mary Roth said in a statement.

The manual includes a worksheet for risk managers to build a business case for why their company should hire an intern, as well as strategies for designing an internship and defining an intern’s responsibilities, RIMS said in the statement.

Authored by the RIMS Student Advisory Council, the manual also guides risk professionals on how to apply for a Spencer Internship Grant to fund the program.

“Real-world experience gives risk management and insurance students a competitive edge as they enter the workforce,” Spencer chairperson Marya Propis said. “Through scholarships, grants and internship programs, Spencer continues to support new opportunities for students to explore our profession.”

The report is currently available to RIMS members.
