Alleged slip and fall insurance scam

He walks. He looks. He takes a cup of ice, dumps it on the floor, and looks around again. The fall is gradual, slow. Calculated. More like a crawl to the ground.

But he lands on his back and stays there. And then files an insurance claim.

Making its way around the internet Friday is the latest insurance fraud video that serves as a warning to fraudsters — cameras are everywhere — and as a commercial for businesses who have yet to install surveillance cameras as a risk management strategy against fraud.

New Jersey resident and independent contractor Alexander Goldinsky, who was subcontracted to perform work at the business, was arrested in January after Middlesex County prosecutors discovered that he had filed a false insurance claim from this incident between “Sept. 1 and Nov. 1 of last year,” according to a CBS News report that aired Friday.

He was charged with one count of insurance fraud and one count of theft by deception and is set to appear in court on Feb. 7, according to the report.
