Truckers' strike, trade bans hamper meat processors' exports

Data from Brazilian meat industry association showed that trade bans and a domestic truckers' strike hampered meat processors' exports in 2018, Reuters reported. Truckers protesting high diesel prices blocked major roadways in May, curbing domestic shipments and hampering companies' operations. The Associacao Brasileira de Proteina Animal said that Europe banned 20 Brazilian chicken plants, while Russia banned pork imports for nearly a year due to food safety concerns. Chicken exports fell more than 5% while pork exports fell 7%.
