Louis Vuitton poo-poos wacky children’s handbags, faces lawsuit

A California toy company filed a lawsuit Friday against French handbag designer Louis Vuitton to stop the luxury brand from interfering with the sales of a slime-filled, poop-shaped toy purse for children, Pooey Puitton, according to a Reuters report.

Pooey Puitton maker MGA Entertainment Inc. said no reasonable consumer would mistake its $59.99 purse for a signature, costlier Louis Vuitton handbag, according to the complaint filed in federal court in Los Angeles.

MGA called Pooey Puitton protected parody “designed to mock, criticize, and make fun of that wealth and celebrity” associated with Louis Vuitton products and rejected what it called Louis Vuitton’s claim of trademark infringement to an MGA customer, according to the wire service.

“The use of the Pooey name and Pooey product in association with a product line of ‘magical unicorn poop’ is intended to criticize or comment upon the rich and famous, the Louis Vuitton name, the LV marks, and on their conspicuous consumption,” the complaint reads.

A spokesman for Louis Vuitton on Monday told Reuters the company had no comment on the complaint.
