India investigates Johnson and Johnson over asbestos fears

India's drugs regulator has ordered U.S.-based pharmaceutical giant Johnson and Johnson to stop manufacturing baby powder in two of its Indian factories until test results prove they are free of asbestos, Reuters reported. An official said that the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization visited Johnson and Johnson's plants in northern and western India and took "tests and samples" of its talcum powder, baby shampoo and soap products. The regulator visited the plants following a recent report that the company allegedly knew for decades that cancer-causing asbestos could be found in its baby powder.
