Rapper sues over alleged ‘Fortnite’ dance swipe

Rapper 2 Milly is suing a video game maker for allegedly co-opting the hip-hop two-step dance he invented.

According to news reports, a dance created in 2014 by 2 Milly, whose real name is Terrence Ferguson, went viral in the summer of 2015.

Then earlier this year, Carey, North Carolina-based Epic Games Inc., the maker of the popular “Fortnite” video game, copied the dance, renamed it “Swipe It” and offered it to game users for a fee. Game players who pay get to watch their avatars perform the dance.

The game has more than 200 million players, according to reports.

2 Milly filed suit in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles last week charging copyright infringement and the right of publicity, stating the company has not only stolen his dance moves, but has been exploiting other African-American artists as well without credit or payment.

The rapper has been quoted as saying the money involved is not even the whole point: “I just feel like I have to protect what’s mine.”
